Coronavirus updates in India: Covid19 cases rise above 4,400 in India. State-wise tally

With new 354 new Covid-19 infections reported in past 24 hours, the total number of coronavirus cases in India today jumped to 4,421, showed the latest data released from Health Ministry. The death toll has risen to 114 while 325 patients have been cured of the virus or discharged. Maharashtra reported the highest number of cases at 748, followed by Tamil Nadu at 621 and Delhi at 523. On Monday, the Health Ministry had reported nearly 700 fresh cases.
The health ministry had on Monday said that at least 1,445 coronavirus cases have been found to be linked to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi.

Indian Railways has said that as part of its its efforts to supplement the government's measures to fight coronavirus, the national transporter has converted 2,500 coaches into isolation wards in the first phase and 40,000 isolation beds are now ready for use.



Globally, the total number of coronavirus cases neared 1.35 million while the death toll crossed 74,000, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University. The US with over 3.6 lakh cases was the worst affected country while the death toll in the country has surpassed 10,000.
Only Italy (16,523) and Spain (13,341) have seen more of their citizens killed by the pandemic.
There was a glimmer of hope, however, in New York, the main focus of the US outbreak, where there have been more than 4,750 deaths statewide and 130,000 cases.
